We're seeing the vast bulk of readership is coming from developing markets in India and Africa, and the thing that people in those markets consistently seek out is educational texts.

The richness of the Nature experience might not translate directly to the small screen but the demand is out there and it's huge. I hope more educational publishers follow Nature's lead.

As Michael Hart would say "EVERYTHING FOR EVERYONE. . ."Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18164409.post-89669279550827563712011-11-24T10:33:05.723-08:002011-11-24T10:33:05.723-08:00Dwellingspirit > Just wondering why they can...Dwellingspirit > Just wondering why they can't produce 1 image in SVG form?

They may be using SVG for diagrams and illustrations. It is a confirmation of a common pattern: solutions for a common problem in a new technology initially resemble the previous technology until an emancipation on its own merit happens:
- early cars looked like horse-less carriages (and until today are colloquially powered by horse powers)
- early web design was dominated by print design type of approaches to control color tones and pixel sizes

So this development isn't unexpected. I will be curious how the business models will adjust. While it is comparable easy to convert stables into garages, it was much harder to transform the hay supply chain into the gas station network.

We truly live in interesting times!NotesSenseihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05786554785308622213noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18164409.post-33559377676116265922011-11-24T06:00:11.842-08:002011-11-24T06:00:11.842-08:00Guetenberg was one of several people to speed up t...Guetenberg was one of several people to speed up the process of book publishing, such as how Ford invented the assembly line to make cars faster and cheaper. How that relates to how text on paper is turning into an online process seems off-center. If all books were being mass-marketed online rather than off a press, then your post would have a little more weight to it.

I don't mean to be an ass, but I just wanted to clarify that. Good post though, makes you think how we can use this example to change the way kids learn in school. Many districts can learn a "no paper" policy can work very well like this.Jetrahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04483914950851726266noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18164409.post-1261212109861083952011-11-23T22:47:01.908-08:002011-11-23T22:47:01.908-08:00Just wondering why they can't produce 1 image ...Just wondering why they can't produce 1 image in SVG form?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11833459250657766101noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-18164409.post-51050121127425755792011-11-23T22:46:20.606-08:002011-11-23T22:46:20.606-08:00Can't they use SVG for the image(s)?Can't they use SVG for the image(s)?Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11833459250657766101noreply@blogger.com
