Professor Sells Lectures Online

A thread was posted on Slashdot discussing a professor's decision to charge $2.50 for recordings of lectures. We have just listened to lectures in the Distinguished Speaker series at UC Berekely. How do you see the future of networked applications in education? What are the implications for individuals, organizations and society>

  1. The motivation of this prof. appears unclear. Lecture notes (presumably in electronic format)are simply part of the teaching package a prof. is supposed to provide today - not an extra part requiring additional effort. Whether a studnet comes or doesn't to a class is irrelevant. Notes should be available electronically.

Indeed, those of us who put notes on open Websites do make these available to the whole world.
